KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a woman and her husband after an eight-year-old boy was found with bruises all over his body.
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak, in a statement Friday (Sept 16), said that the victim’s six-year-old sister was also found with bruises on her body.
He added that the boy was alone at home during his attempt to escape from an apartment in Ampang.
“They have been referred to the Ampang Hospital for medical check up and the Welfare Department has been informed in regards to the welfare of the victims.
“At around 6pm today, we arrested two suspects; the 33-year-old aunt and her 29-year-old husband. She was found without any priors, but the man has a prior criminal offence,” he said.
Investigations showed that both children were left by their mother following the death of their father two years ago.
“They stayed with the suspects for the last two years after their father died. Their mother does not want to take care of the two victims,” he said.
Both suspects will be remanded on Saturday (Sept 17).
Earlier today, firefighters and members of the public rescued a boy who was trying to run away from suspected abusers.
When contacted, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said firefighters were deployed to an apartment in Jalan Cahaya after a boy was seen trying to escape from the fourth floor.
Photos sighted by The Star showed visible marks of bruises on the boy’s body, arms, legs and back.
