JOHOR BARU: The fate of Datuk Seri Najib Razak should not be Umno’s main focus going into the 15th General Election (GE15), says its youth exco member Noor Azleen Ambros.

He said Umno had a long, proven history and its struggle was not defined by any single person.

“No matter how great the charisma and influence of certain individuals, their devotion and service were only possible because of the party’s support.

“In the wake of what happened to Najib, Umno needs to move on,” he said.

Najib is serving a 12-year jail sentence following the Federal Court’s decision on Aug 23 to uphold his corruption conviction in the RM42mil SRC International case.

“Our focus should be on winning in GE15,” Noor Azleen said in a statement yesterday.

The Pasir Gudang Umno Youth chief said the party did sympathise with the former prime minister and Umno president.

“Let’s continue to pray that his family will be given the strength and perseverance to face all his upcoming trials,” he said.

Meanwhile, Noor Azleen said Umno as a party had proven it never compromised on values and integrity.

He added that Umno would also work towards institutional reforms, including the excessive concentration of power in the hands of the Attorney General.

“The jurisdiction and discretion of the AG and the Public Prosecutor need to be separated,” he said.
