PASIR GUDANG: Two boys have drowned while swimming in Sungai Masai, near Jalan Masai Utama here.

The victims, identified as Sharif Mohd Sharizan Sabri, 11, and Mohd Ahlan Kiram, 14, were reported missing at about 6.15pm on Sunday (Jan 16) at the river located about 500m from their house in Flat Masai Utama.

According to Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Yusri Atan, a total of 36 officers and personnel were deployed to the location to conduct a rescue operation.

“The rescue team comprised people from the Pasir Gudang fire station, the Skudai Water Rescue Unit (PPDA) and Pasir Gudang police station.

“The body of the first victim, Sharif Mohd, was found at 9.18pm,” he said.

The body of the 14-year-old boy was found at 10.32pm.

“From our initial investigation, witnesses say the victims had gone out to the river with four other friends.

“The bodies were located two metres apart,” he said when contacted here.

The bodies of the victims have been handed over to the police and will be taken to Hospital Sultan Ismail (HSI).
