MELAKA: A 14-year-old student died on the spot after the motorcycle she was riding on collided with a car driven by a refugee. Neither of them had a valid driving licence.

Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit identified the victim as Raudah Syafiah Mohamad Zulhilmi who was on her way back home from her school-SMK Pernu, when the accident occurred at 6.35pm on Tuesday(July 12) along Jalan Seri Emas 51 in Telok Mas, here.

He said the 37-year-old driver of the car was a Rohingya with UNCHR card.

ACP Christopher Patit said the driver of the car was believed to have been driving recklessly.

He said the car was owned by a 62-year-old local and had valid road tax.

ACP Christopher said the victim was also riding her machine without a valid driving licence.

He said the police have arrested the driver of the car to assist investigation under 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

ACP Christopher Patit said the driver of the car also sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Earlier, a video went viral when villagers nabbed the driver of the car who was believed to have attempted to flee the accident scene.
