It’s been nearly a year since the release of the Sony Xperia 1 IV, so it’s only natural to be expecting the company to announce a sequel some time soon. Which is exactly what the company has announced, sort of. There is a new video on the official Sony Xperia YouTube channel, which says that the “Next ONE is coming”. Unless there’s another product in the Xperia line with the number one in its name, this more than likely indicates the unveiling of the Sony Xperia 1 V.

From the short clip uploaded, the launch stream will be happening on 11 May at 1PM Japan time, which translates to noon for us. Incidentally, as far as the dates go anyway, this will be exactly a year after the unveiling of the previous model. The teaser also clearly shows the sensor in a conventional camera, which then transitions to a few shots of someone holding something in his hand that looks more like a phone than a camera. Naturally, these bits of details aside, the clip isn’t showing anything else, so we’ll have to wait until the announcement itself to find out more.

With the few leaks that the Sony Xperia 1 V has suffered, we know that it will look essentially the same as its predecessor models. That means a familiar 21:9 aspect ratio that is now synonymous with this series of phones, with the screen itself claimed to be measuring 6.5 inches across. The back will still sport the very familiar triple camera setup, but rather than the full 12MP lineup, the wide-angle shooter will apparently be upgraded to a 48MP sensor.

Other items in the spec sheet include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, up to 16GB of RAM, and a familiar 5000mAh battery. We’ll find out for sure if these upgrades are as predictable as the industry thought they are in two weeks’ time.
