Sony released its WF-1000XM4 TWS buds back in 2021, so it probably won’t be long before the company announced the successor model. But as the internet does its thing, we are starting to see pretty substantial leaks on the company’s next TWS buds, which is expected to be called the Sony WF-1000XM5. A recent one even involves its feature sheet, showing a fair amount of detail, even if it is still an incomplete picture.
This leaked spec sheet of the Sony WF-1000XM5 comes courtesy of The Walkman blog, which compares it to existing models of the company’s other TWS buds. These include the LinkBuds S and the WF-C700N, as well as a WF-C500, but not the WF-1000XM4 that it is taking over for. The table itself supposedly came from one of Amazon’s nooks and crannies, which we’re unable to locate for ourselves.
That aside, the table suggests that the Sony WF-1000XM5 will come ANC, hi-res audio wireless, beamforming mics and bone conduction, wearing detection, multipoint connection, as well as touch controls. That’s basically everything that the current WF-1000XM4 has. While battery capacity is not listed in the comparison, the sheet notes a battery life of up to 24 hours. Notably though, there’s also the listed weight for the buds and the case, which are 5.9g and 39g, respectively, making them lighter than the current model.
Beyond just the comparison, The Walkman Blog took the enlarged image of the Sony WF-1000XM 5 and superimposed the XM4 onto it to get a size comparison. Assuming the buds are the exact same, this means the upcoming model is quite a bit smaller, to go with the reduced weight. And finally, there’s the bit that raises eyebrows the most; a claim to the announcement date of the TWS buds. One reader of the blog claims that it will be announced between 5 and 9 June, and we’re already in the middle of the highlighted week. So while we should take the whole comparison table with a pinch of salt, this is especially so for this supposed release week window.
