GEORGE TOWN: There will be water disruptions in several areas in Penang due to the muddy waters caused by the latest Baling floods.

The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP), in a Facebook post late Thursday (Sept 8) night, said the areas included the south of Bukit Dumbar all the way to Balik Pulau (Pulau Betong, Bukit Penara, Pondok Upeh and Balik Pulau town).

Areas in central Seberang Prai and south Seberang Prai after the Bukit Minyak pump house will be affected as well.

“PBAPP is monitoring the quality of raw water.

“As of 8pm on Thursday, the water production capacity at the Sungai Dua water treatment plant is at 70%.

“PBAPP will update the status from time to time,” it read.

In July, the Sungai Dua Water WTP was shut down for hours due to the turbidity in the Sungai Muda river due to the floods in Baling.

The shutdown left many households without water. Thousands rushed to shops and supermarkets in a mad scramble to buy bottled water.

Sundry shops and supermarkets were full of people buying cartons of drinking water, causing congestion at the cashiers.

Meanwhile, Syarikat Air Darul Aman (SADA), in a statement, said 35,000 accounts in the Kuala Muda district will also be affected.

The water disruption began at 6.35pm on Sept 8 and water supply will only be recovered when the turbidity of raw water is stable.
