IPOH: A request to conduct maintenance and upgrades at the Gerik-Jeli Highway was made to the Federal Government a few months ago, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad (pic).

The Perak Mentri Besar said the request was made during the Conference of Rulers.

“We did receive some complaints from the public about road conditions.

“We have yet to receive any feedback but we are monitoring the situation from time to time,” he said after launching the Ipoh Heritage Tourism programme at Ipoh Ground here Saturday (May 14).

On Tuesday (May 10) a man and his wife were killed while their two children were injured in a road accident involving two vehicles at KM76 of the Gerik-Jeli Highway.

Saarani said the highway is under the Federal Government.

“This is a constitutional matter, therefore the state can’t interfere.

“We hope the public understands this. The state Public Work Department officer will continue to monitor the response from time to time,” he said.
