PETALING JAYA: Heavy traffic has been reported along the North-South Expressway (NSE) and the Karak Expressway.

According to the Malaysia Highway Authority Twitter traffic page, the NSE was experiencing heavy traffic from Alor Setar to Pendang, Hentian Bukit Kobah to the Gurun R&R, Bukit Tambun to Jawi, Alor Pongsu to Bukit Merah and Taiping (U) exit to the Taiping rest stop.

“Traffic was also crawling from Karak to Bentong and Bentong to Lentang along the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway.

“Along the North-South Expressway, traffic was also heavy from Machap to Ayer Hitam, Yong Peng to the Pagoh R&R, Pagoh to Bukit Gambir and Bukit Gambir to Bemban,” it said in a series of tweets on Wednesday (May 4).

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department principal assistant director (enforcement) Supt Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin had said over 14 million vehicles are expected to be on the road during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festivities.

Police would conduct more integrated and efficient enforcement to curb road accidents and ensure smooth flowing traffic.

He said they would be focusing on a total enforcement approach where the operations would cover speed limit compliance.

Selangor Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Azman Shariat was quoted urging road users to be courteous when driving.

“Road users must also ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before travelling.

“Our advice is simple, be patient on the road. Motorists should expect traffic congestion,” he was quoted saying.

City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Asst Comm Sarifudin Mohd Salleh reminded motorists to always comply with the traffic regulations.

He urged those caught in the traffic congestion to be patient, and not to resort to cutting queue and using the emergency lanes.
