PETALING JAYA: Malaysia has reaffirmed its commitment to the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (Corsia), says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The Transport Minister said he made a courtesy call on State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport, Stefan Schnorr, at the ICAO headquarters.

“We have reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to ICAO’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (Corsia), which Germany strongly advocates,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Sept 27).

Dr Wee also shared with Schnorr that currently, Malaysia has initiated flights operated using sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

“However, we need more German companies to collaborate with us in the development and the use of SAF to make it a more cost-efficient option,” he said.

Dr Wee also noted that both Malaysia and Germany pledged mutual support for each other as both countries were seeking re-election to the ICAO Council.
