JOHOR BARU: A 30-year-old man was arrested for assaulting a court registry officer at the Magistrate Court here on Saturday (Dec 25).

Johor Baru South Deputy OCPD Supt Lim Jit Huey said that the incident occurred at about 11.20am during a remand process hearing.

“One of the detainees inside the courtroom suddenly attacked the 28-year-old female victim.

“The police on duty managed to intervene and the victim was safe and unharmed,” he said in a statement here.

He added that the investigation into the case is still ongoing.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant.

The charge carries a maximum of two-year imprisonment and an RM10,000 fine, or both if convicted.
