FARIS Danial Mohd Amir Raja’s dream of once again representing the nation in squash has been dashed by an array of severe digestive ailments, Kosmo! reported.

The 28-year-old said he has been unable to work or play squash since he fell ill in November.

“I am currently suffering from antral gastritis, gastroesophageal reflux disease and stage two hernia, which together have caused me to wheeze frequently while also constantly feeling weak and passing out easily.

“I tried to run my own business before but had to eventually give it up as I became too weak.

“I reached a point where I only weighed 45kg,” he said at his home at Taman Warisan Puteri, Seremban.

Faris, who once attended Bukit Jalil Sports School and represented the country in squash abroad 10 years ago, said he could no longer eat regular food.

This is because he would experience severe pain that he described was akin to getting stabbed in the gut.

“I can only eat boiled food now but due to my inability to work, my savings have been exhausted and I have to ask relatives and friends for help,” he said.

Faris currently lives with his parents. He also had to rely financially on his father, Mohd Amir Raja Abdullah, 58, who works as a shop assistant with a salary of RM25 a day.

He said his father has to work despite suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes and heart disease, while his mother Nor Laila Hassan, 58, also has hernia.

Faris now needs RM26,000 for surgery for his own condition.
