KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman has managed to solve a 12-year-old rape case using DNA evidence.

Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan said police arrested a 40-year-old man at a goat-rearing farm in Balik Pulau around 3.30pm on Thursday (April 7).

“He was arrested in connection with the rape of a 15-year-old girl at a workshop in Sungai Pinang, 12 years ago.

“A scientific investigation using DNA data managed to identify the suspect in the case,” he said in a statement on Friday (April 8).

The suspect has been remanded until April 13, he said.

“The police have never given up in gathering leads and information on the case until we managed to identify the suspect.

“We are in the midst of completing the investigation, and the investigation paper will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for prosecution,” Comm Abd Jalil said.
