KUALA LUMPUR: The Umno supreme council meeting, which ended late Saturday night (Aug 27), discussed party preparations for the 15th General Election (GE15) and efforts to boost party solidarity, say party leaders.

Umno supreme council member and Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said the discussions revolved mainly around creating political stability, improving the economy and preparations towards GE15.

“We do not discuss other matters, we only discussed about our party’s preparations, how to ensure our candidates become stronger,” he said when met by reporters at Menara Dato Onn here Saturday.

Asked whether the meeting discussed the date for GE15, Bung Moktar said that it was up to the prime minister.

“That is not my job, it is up to the prime minister,” he said.

Asked whether the supreme council had discussed the prime minister’s attendance at the special briefing earlier Saturday, Bung Moktar replied, “Why would we discuss that?

“The Prime Minister attended the supreme council meeting,” the Kinabatangan MP added.

Supreme council member Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin also said the meeting revolved around party solidarity.

Asked if the date of the general election was discussed, Zahidi merely said that “it is near.”

Earlier, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob did not show up for the party’s special briefing due to other government programmes held in Bera.

However, he arrived for the supreme council meet at about 8.40pm on Saturday.
