MELAKA: There is a lot that Barisan Nasional can do for Tangga Batu to ensure the constituency prospers, says MCA vice president Datuk Lim Ban Hong.

Lim, who is Barisan’s candidate for the Tangga Batu seat, said the local economy was the main concern.

“Tangga Batu’s (economic) activities include fishing and agriculture.

“We need better infrastructure for fishermen here to help them earn livelihoods.

“For those involved in agriculture, we need better irrigation systems,” he told reporters after visiting the Tangga Batu night market here on Monday (Nov 7).

Lim, who was born and raised here, said there was also growing industry in Tangga Batu, adding that it was a collaborative effort by both the Federal and state governments to develop its manufacturing and industrial sectors.

“We also have many small and medium enterprises here, and we need to pay attention to them too.

“A balance should also be struck in efforts to ensure Tangga Batu is better developed while protecting the environment.

“This will ensure Tangga Batu will continuously prosper,” he said.

Lim is in a five-cornered fight for the Tangga Batu where he is up against incumbent Rusnah Aluai from Pakatan Harapan, Bakri Jamaluddin of Perikatan Nasional, Ghazali Abu of Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra) and Independent Mohamad Shahril Mahmood.
