MELAKA: Employment opportunities, increasing household income and infrastructure developments in Alor Gajah will be a big part of Barisan Nasional’s Shahril Hamdan focus if elected as its MP.

The Umno information chief said that providing access to quality education would also be emphasised, alongside developing Alor Gajah as a tourist attraction.

“When we look at income levels here, we can see the household income among Alor Gajah residents is slightly below average.

“In terms of education (if I am elected), I also aim to perhaps create free tuition classes, especially for those living in rural areas,” he told reporters after attending an event on Friday night (Nov 11).

Shahril added that Alor Gajah could also be further developed as a tourist attraction, given its multiracial demographics.

“For example, we have Chinese New Year celebrations annually at Meihua Walk in Machap, and I would love to explore how this event can attract even more tourists, to the point it becomes well known in the South East Asian region.

“At the same time, cultural heritage, across all races, can be recognised and understood by the youth instead of only the elder generations,” he said, adding that town halls would also be organised regularly here, where he would conduct open conversations with the locals if given the people’s mandate.

A special manifesto will also be released for Alor Gajah on Saturday (Nov 12), he said.

Shahril is in a four-cornered fight for the Alor Gajah federal seat against Pakatan Harapan’s Adly Zahari, incumbent Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusoff of Perikatan Nasional and Gerakan Tanah Air’s Muhammad Nazriq Abdul Rahman.
