BUTTERWORTH: A 28-year-old man was killed in an accident at KM4.3 of the Penang Bridge in early Sunday (Jan 16).

Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Shafee Abd Samad said police were informed about the incident at about 2.05am.

“Initial investigations found the accident occurred at about 1.50am at Penang Bridge Prai bounds between a car and a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

“The accident is believed to have happened when the four-wheel-drive vehicle crashed into the back of a car,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

ACP Shafee said the collision caused both vehicles to spin out of control, and sent them crashing into the divider at the right of the bridge.

He said the driver of the four-wheel-drive vehicle sustained injuries and was sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for further treatment.

Viral pictures and video show a man, believed to be the driver of the four-wheel drive vehicle, bleeding and sprawled on the road.

The driver of the car did not sustain any injuries.

He however said the police was informed by the hospital that the victim succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at about 5.30pm on Sunday.

“The post-mortem was conducted at Seberang Jaya Hospital and the cause of the death has been identified as severe traumatic brain injury,” he said.

The case is classified under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
