KUALA LUMPUR: Construction workers stumbled upon a 40mm mortar bomb while building a drain along Jalan Taman Pusat Kepong here.

Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai said the discovery was made at around 12.30pm on Monday (May 30).

“We received a distress call from workers and dispatched a team from the City Bomb Disposal Unit to the scene.

“Checks revealed the bomb was no longer active and did not pose any danger,” he said in a statement on Monday.

He said an officer from the Bomb Disposal Unit confirmed that the bomb was a 40mm Mortar Practice bomb.

“The bomb was commonly used in military exercises.

“The bomb was taken to the Kuala Lumpur Armoury Division for further action,” he said, urging the public to refrain from speculating on the case and causing public anxiety.

ACP Beh also advised anyone who found similar objects to refrain from taking any action on their own and contact the Sentul police operations room at 03-4048 2222.
