Back in September 2020, CD Projekt announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on consoles will be getting next-gen upgrades for free. That upgrade was initially scheduled for release last year, but got pushed back to this year. Now, it’s getting pushed back again, this time indefinitely.
The official Witcher Twitter account shared that it is conducting the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in-house. But the already once delayed release of Q2 2022 will be pushed back again until further notice. Via the account, CDPR says that it will provide an update as soon as it can.
We have decided to have our in-house development team conduct the remaining work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We are currently evaluating the scope of work to be done and thus have to postpone Q2 release until further notice. 1/2

It is strange that a studio will say that it is bringing the development of anything back in-house. It’s not commonly something that happens to third-party support studios, or at the very least, it’s not something that’s announced publicly this way. But a previous report by PC Gamer states that the studio previously reached out to modders to help with the next-gen upgrade. This announcement indicates that the modders involved have completed their part.
All that being said, this is the second time that the next-gen upgrade for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been delayed. The studio is also juggling the development of the upgrade with the ongoing Cyberpunk 2077 fixes.
