Pokemon Scarlet Violet

Despite it being the best selling entries in the series, it’s difficult to deny the poort technical state of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. After two weeks of silence, Nintendo has finally addressed the issue with the release of today’s patch for the game.

Well, sort of. Via the Nintendo of America Twitter account, the company says that update 1.1.0 for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is out today, 1 December. In the same tweet, the company says that it takes “feedback from players seriously, and will continue to work on improvements to the games”.

Going into the actual patch notes, Nintendo lists three fixes that the patch addresses for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The first item simply notes the start of Ranked Battles Season 1 via the Battle Stadium. Next on the list, the company says that it has addressed an issue “that caused music to not play correctly during the battles with the Elite Four and the Top Champion in the Victory Road path. And finally, we get to the kicker. The final item in the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet patch 1.1.0 reads “Other select bug fixes have been made”.

Nintendo ends the patch notes by saying that it is aware that players “may encounter issues that affect the game’s performance”. Which is quite the understatement, and the opacity of what bugs exactly are being fixed is not exactly helpful, even if this is consistent with the way the company does things.

At any rate, for those who are currently playing Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, it’s probably a good idea to get this patch 1.1.0 as soon as you can. While it’s likely that a fair amount of the game’s jank will still remain, the consolation is that at least you won’t run into too many of them anymore, and that the rest of the fixes seem to be on the way.
