2021 was a rough year for all of us and more so for many of the tech giants, one of which is NVIDIA. Now, in just a few more days, the GPU maker is expected to announced its new GeForce RTX 3080 Ti for laptops, RTX 3090 Ti, and above all else, a possible unveiling of Hopper, its next-generation GPU architecture.
For the uninitiated, Hopper is the name of the successor of Lovelace, which in turn is the GPU architecture that is set to replace the current generation, Ampere. Originally, it was Hopper that was supposed to replace the current GPU architecture but due to circumstances – AMD’s distribution of its 7nm process in 2020 being one of them – NVIDIA decided to prioritise Lovelace.
To be fair, little is still known about the Hopper architecture, aside from reports that it is expected to be based on TSMC’s 5nm process. Beyond that, there’s not even any raw data about its performance.
It goes without saying that, at this point in time, this is all merely speculation and hearsay, and there is a chance NVIDIA may not even speak about Hopper during GTC 2022. Therefore, take this news with a very liberal sprinkling of sodium until the keynote in March.
