Malindo Air is being rebranded as Batik Air starting today. The change was approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) which has granted Malindo Airways Sdn Bhd an Air Operators Certificate (AOC) to operate as Batik Air.
According to the company, the rebranding was done to be in sync with the aim of its parent company, Lion Air Group to establish a common identity for all full-service airlines within the group. The airlines also noted that the name change will be done in phases.
“With the rebranding exercise and the reopening of the borders taking place in the region, we are very excited for the opportunities presented to us for the potential growth of our airline and with the new brand, we will be able to offer fresh and new services,” said the airline’s CEO, Captain Mushafiz Mustafa Bakri. In the same announcement, the airline also revealed that it will be adding several Boeing 737 aircrafts to its existing fleet to cater for markets that Malindo/Batik Air has operated in before the pandemic.
Malindo Air’s name intends to signify a cooperative pact between Malaysia and Indonesia. On the other hand, Batik Air is the name of the full-service airline that the group operates in Indonesia while Lion Air Group also operates several other airlines including Wings Air, Lion Bizjet, Thai Lion Air, and Lion Air.
