A couple of new leaks have allegedly revealed the rear camera array designs for all three of Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship smartphone models. Two of which, the standard and Pro variants, are expected to launch later this month, while the Ultra is rumoured to only be unveiled early next year.
The first leak is a set of photos (shown above) featuring casings for all three Xiaomi 12 phones, shared by Chinese tech site MyDrivers. These also reveal the designs for the phones’ rear camera arrays, where the standard and Pro variants are shown to sport a similar layout. To be more specific, both of which feature a large primary camera on top of two smaller ones, while the oblong hole is likely for the flash module.
The Ultra model, on the other hand, is shown to feature a massive circular bump which consists of eight cutouts. Four of which are expected to give way to the phone’s cameras, while the remainder are likely meant for auxiliary modules such as flash and laser sensors. While it is not known what type of cameras this variant may be equipped with, an earlier rumour by leakster Digital Chat Station suggests it may feature an imaging system that is co-developed by German camera manufacturer Leica.
The second leak (shared by GizmoChina) also showcases phone casings, but only for the Xiaomi 12 Pro model. What sets this apart from MyDrivers’ leak for the same device is an additional hole below the flash module, which may house an even smaller camera or some kind of sensor. However, the viability of these images are questionable as, strangely enough, one of which describes the phone as an “Intelligent Electric Cooker”. But to be fair, it is still uncertain whether either of these leaks are accurate or not.
As for the front design, another leak shared in October suggests that the Xiaomi 12 series (or at least some models) will feature a display with a tall display. Should this actually be true, this would have Xiaomi’s upcoming phones to directly rival Sony’s Xperia line-up, which are the only smartphones in the market that feature this particular aspect ratio.
