It may not exactly be topping charts, but Korean MMO Black Desert Online is certainly a contender for a spot in the list of good MMOs. It’s not free to play – at least not for Malaysia – but if you claim it soon on Steam, then it’s free for you to keep forever.
More specifically, for a limited time you “buy” your copy of BDO on Steam for RM0 (it’s usually priced at RM15.50). This promotion is good until 14 April. There’s also a “while supplies last” disclaimer here, which is quite unusual for something like this.
Black Desert Online was first released in 2015, but it wouldn’t be until 2018 that gamers in Southeast Asia got access to it. And despite being a free-to-play title in its home title of South Korea, as well as Japan and Russia, it’s a paid title everywhere else.
As for whether or not you should play it though, this really depends on the amount of time you’re willing to sink into it. While you’d already expect MMORPGs to be massive time sinks, Black Desert Online is especially so, with its many interconnected resource generating mechanics. Claim it while you can anyway, but unless you’re prepared to live a second life in the game, then it’s probably better left alone in your pile of shame.
