Huawei today has officially confirmed that the Watch D, its much anticipated smartwatch which features built-in ECG and blood pressure monitoring functions, will be released in Malaysia later this month. As you may recall, both of aforementioned features had recently gained their respective approvals from the Malaysian Medical Device Authority Register (MDAR), finally allowing the company to distribute the wearable in the local market.

For the Malaysian release, pretty much the only thing that has been changed is its onboard HarmonyOS-powered user interface, which now comes in English as well as other languages. Apart from that, the hardware and features of the Huawei Watch D remains the same as its initial release in China last year.

To recap, the newly launched smartwatch is equipped with a 1.64-inch 456 x 280 pixel AMOLED display that is housed in an aluminium casing. Apart from featuring typical smartwatch functionalities, onboard GPS, NFC support and over 70 sports modes, it also comes with sensors for health tracking, including ECG and blood pressure monitoring.

In regards to the latter, the Huawei Watch D is the first of its kind to be equipped with the feature, which is powered by the company’s own TruBP technology. This consists of a micro air pump and airbag that’s built-in to the wrist strap, as well as a high-precision sensor, pressure feedback control circuit, and low flow gas path that’s equipped on the watch’s main body.

It’s also worth noting that it has been registered as a Class II medical device in China, though Huawei recommends to only rely on the smartwatch’s ECG and blood pressure readings for monitoring purposes. Users are still advised to refer to doctors or specialists for professional advice.

As for battery expectancy, the company says the Watch D is capable of lasting up to seven days on a full charge. Besides that, the wearable is only offered in the Graphite Black colour option for the local market, and it also has a rating of IP68 in terms of water resistance.

The Huawei Watch D is slated to arrive in Malaysia towards the end of December, and will retail for RM 1,999. Pre-orders for the forthcoming smartwatch will start from 12 December until 23 December 2022 via the brand’s official online store.
