Huawei Malaysia has announced that the latest addition to its nova Y series of smartphones will be arriving locally soon on 15 July 2022. Known as the nova Y90, it is a new mid-range handset which comes with a Snapdragon 680 chipset, a large display, 50MP primary camera, and more.

The new Huawei phone sports a flat 6.7-inch LCD display with a top-centred camera cutout and surrounded by thin bezels, except for its chin. Additionally, its panel features FHD+ (1080 x 2388 pixel) resolution, 90 Hz refresh rate, and a 270 Hz touch sampling rate. The device itself also comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a USB-C port for data transfer and charging, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack for external audio.

Under the hood of the Huawei nova Y90 is the aforementioned 4G-enabled Snapdragon 680 quad-core chipset, along with an Adreno 610 GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of internal storage. However, unlike other smartphones within the same range, it does not come with expanded storage support. Besides that, the handset comes with the company’s EMUI 12 operating system out of the box, as well as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC connectivity.

Meanwhile, powering the nova Y90 is a non-removable lithium-ion battery with 5,000mAh capacity and 40W fast charging support via USB-C. According to Huawei, a 30-minute charge is capable of topping up 50% of the phone’s battery.

Found on its back is a circular camera array that is reminiscent of the one featured on Huawei’s Mate 40 smartphones. But unlike the flagship model, the nova Y90 is instead equipped with a triple shooter setup which consists of a 50MP f/1.8 primary, 2MP f/2.4 macro, and a 2MP f/2.4 depth sensor. Housed within the display’s cutout, on the other hand, is an 8MP f/2.0 front-facing camera.
