Aside from the MateBook 16s, MateBook D16, MatePad Pro 11 and FreeBuds Pro 2, another new Huawei product that will be heading to Malaysia soon is the 2022 iteration of MateBook X Pro. Since the first version was announced back in 2018, the model has been positioned not only as the thinnest and lightest MateBook around but also the most premium offering in the family.

First introduced in China last December before it was introduced to the global market in February, certain markets have indeed received the 2022 model but with 11th Gen Intel Core chip. For the upcoming release in Malaysia next month, it will come with the newer 12th Gen Intel Core chip instead.

Specifically, the Malaysian-spec for the MateBook X Pro is equipped with an Intel Core i7-1260P chip which is also inclusive of Intel Iris Xe Graphics. The compact Intel Evo-certified laptop which weighs at around 1.26kg is also accompanied by 16GB LPDDR5 RAM alongside a 1TB NVMe PCIe solid state drive and a dedicated performance mode that would increase its power threshold to 30W TDP.

The new laptop also features a 14.2-inch LTPS touch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio, a native resolution of 3120 x 2080, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a brightness level that can go as high as 500 nits. Huawei has also highlighted the fact that the X Pro offers a rather excellent level of colour accuracy with a sub-1 Delta value together with a magnetically-controlled nano optical layer that apparently able to reduce light reflection by up to 60%.

While the 2021 model still comes with two USB-A ports in addition to two USB-C ports, all four ports on the 2022 iteration are USB-C ports. The new model also supports Thunderbolt 4 – not available on the 2021 model – on two of the USB-C ports.

Just like the 16s and D16, the 2022’s X Pro’s keyboard offers 1.5mm key travel. Similarly, the webcam on the new laptop has also been enhanced with Huawei’s AI Camera suite of features that includes customisable virtual background, FollowCam, and Eye Contact functionalities but it has a lower resolution 720p sensor though.

In addition to being part of Huawei’s Super Device ecosystem, the 2022’s X Pro has six audio speakers and a quad-microphone setup. Not to forget, the laptop has also been equipped with a 60Wh battery is accompanied by a 90W SuperCharge charger but the company did not reveal its battery life rating and charging time.

As noted earlier, the 2022 MateBook X Pro will be heading to Malaysia this coming August but unlike 16s and D16, details about its pricing are still under wraps by Huawei for now. Given its premium status though, expect the laptop to come with a hefty price tag, similar to how the 2021 version was released in Malaysia for RM6,899 at launch.
