Sony Xperia 5

A listing for Sony’s supposedly upcoming Xperia 5 IV compact smartphone has appeared in the US’ FCC database. Along with it are a couple of key details regarding the device, such as its dimensions, featured hardware, and so on.

According to the FCC listing, the Sony Xperia 5 IV measures at 155.74 mm in length and 67.1 mm in width, while its display is recorded at 153.5mm – equivalent to 6.04-inches. Surprisingly, this suggests that the fourth iteration of the smartphone is slightly smaller than its predecessor, which measures at 6.1-inches.

Besides that, it is revealed that the Xperia 5 IV will come with WiFi 6 connectivity, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a USB-C connector for charging and data transfer, as well as featuring support for NFC and an unspecified Bluetooth version. Additionally, the listing also suggests that it will also be equipped with wireless charging capability, which is a first for Sony’s compact flagship smartphone model.

Unfortunately, the listing did not provide any details on the allegedly upcoming smartphone’s key specifications such as its chipset, memory capacities, battery size and so on. That being said, the rumour mill has been churning out some unofficial information regarding the Xperia 5 IV’s featured hardware.

For starters, it is said that the device will be equipped with the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset, along with up to 12GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. Leaksters also claim that its battery will be slightly larger, coming in at 5,000mAh.

Meanwhile, its imaging system is believed to feature a triple camera setup consisting of a 12 MP Sony IMX557 primary sensor, a 12 MP IMX 663 telephoto with up to 4.4x magnification, and a 12 MP IMX363 ultra-wide. If this sounds familiar to you, that’s because it is the same setup as the Xperia 5 III, which is kind of disappointing if this detail is accurate.

It is not known when Sony is expected to launch the Xperia 5 IV at this time, though it seems that the phone is arriving later than expected. This is especially given the fact that its predecessor debuted together with the company’s primary flagship smartphone in April of last year.
