I hate to sound like a broken record writing about Tourism-related government businesses most times, but here’s one for the week…

An industry source has brought to our attention that the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture recently awarded a media monitoring contract to an event management company.

Even though the budget was not disclosed, it is believed that the project is worth a few million ringgit for a period of 2 years.

The tender specifications include local mainstream media monitoring, social media listening with dashboard, creative content content marketing and management, news summary translations, tracking media sentiment and conduct validated analyses, crisis reporting and provide daily, weekly and monthly reports.

One might ask, why is an event management company being awarded a tender for a media monitoring project by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.

A check on the winning company, Usaha Jana Sdn Bhd, reveals that their domain expertise is event management, and to their credit, over 14 years of experience in that field.

They are are mentioned here for APEC 2020: https://freemalaysiabaru.wordpress.com/2019/12/06/syarikat-kroni-setiausaha-politik-najib-dapat-projek-apec-2020-rm49-5-juta/

Their website says they are all about perfection, check them out here: http://usahajana.com/v2/

The tender closed 28th of April, 2021, and the winner was announced last week.

But we can’t tell how many companies tendered for the assignment, even though it is said to be an open tender and should have stated the list of participants and respective tender values.

Maybe I missed that bit…..

Once again, we are told that the Corporate Communications Unit of the Ministry, who requested for the RFP, were not aware of the final results posted, nor have they heard of Usaha Jana.

Another case of COVID blind spot?

Nuff said.
