Apple is said to launch an update to the iPhone SE during this year’s spring event in March or April. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company possibly plans to include 5G connectivity in the entry-level iPhone.
Gurman adds that the third-generation iPhone SE is expected to maintain its iPhone 8 design with thick bezels, small screen, and a physical home button with Touch ID – all of which seemingly corroborate with a rumour published by Japanese blog Macotakara back in October of last year. Those of you who want a relatively-affordable iPhone with a bigger display might have to wait a while, as it is rumoured that an iPhone XR-inspired SE phone might only be coming in 2024.
As for the specs, nothing has been confirmed but Apple traditionally fits the iPhone SE with last year’s A-series processor. In this instance, it is possible for this year’s SE to be powered by the iPhone 13’s A15 chip, similar to how the second-generation SE, released in 2020, runs on the A13 chip.
The company’s “Spring Loaded” event last year was held virtually and unveiled products such as the AirTag, the 2021 iPad Pro, a new Apple TV 4K, and an M1-powered iMac. Aside from the SE, Apple is also predicted to launch an iMac Pro and a Mac Mini powered the M1 Pro and M1 Max chips at this year’s event, which Gurman predicts will also be virtual.
